This course introduces students to the fundamentals of effective communication, focusing on both verbal and non-verbal aspects. Learners will explore how to organize their thoughts logically, articulate arguments persuasively, and respond thoughtfully to opposing viewpoints. Emphasis is placed on clarity, coherence, and confidence while speaking, along with active listening and respectful engagement.
A key component of the course is understanding the structure and formats of debates. Students will learn different types of debates, including formal debates (such as parliamentary and competitive debate formats) and informal discussions. They will be trained in constructing arguments using evidence, facts, and logical reasoning, as well as identifying fallacies and weak arguments. This helps in developing strong analytical and evaluation skills.
The course also focuses on discussion techniques, teaching learners how to participate effectively in group discussions, panel discussions, and team-based conversations. Students will practice initiating discussions, maintaining flow, building on others’ ideas, and summarizing key points. These skills are particularly valuable in academic environments, interviews, meetings, and collaborative projects.
