The course begins with an introduction to the fundamental concepts of communication, including the communication process, elements of communication (sender, message, channel, receiver, feedback), and different types of communication such as verbal, non-verbal, interpersonal, and mass communication. Students are introduced to key communication models, such as linear, interactive, and transactional models, which help explain how information flows in different contexts.
A major focus of the course is on the evolution and types of mass media. Students explore traditional forms of media such as newspapers, magazines, radio, and television, along with modern digital platforms including social media, blogs, podcasts, and streaming services.
